In cooperation with renowned exhibition designers SchroederRauch, we created a virtual experience for the MCBW start-up fair 2021, in Munich.
The space, although a virtual one, is built around real world architectural concepts to guide and make our visitors feel at home. The exhibition itself plays with the idea of using liberties a digital environment provides, to enrich and heighten the visitors experience.
The virtual architecture consists of a central foyer room and three connected spaces in the surrounding area. Aesthetically, we play with the artificial nature an online exhibition has, combined with ideas coming frim the aesthetics revolving around game design and the exploration of the potential of surreal spaces.

Four visually distinct areas define the sections of the virtual exhibition, contextualising the respective startups operational areas, from woodwork to tech to sustainability.
To develop the look of each area we played with different lighting, architectural / surface concepts and also with the general shapes, giving each space its own unique feeling.
For the initial testing and evaluation we also explored spaces that would be impossible to create in the real world. We then used this information to gauge how many liberties we can take when designing for the virtual world, making sure our users can navigate the space with ease and focus on the content within.
In order to further help navigating the digital environment we also developed a intuituve manual and an easy to understand UI, which includes a floorpan that could be used as an interactive map.
The UI menu offers optional contextualization such as slide shows, scrollable text boxes and video implementation. All integrated content is responsive and will automatically adjust in size to mobiles, tablets or the desktop screen. We also built in our clients custom CI elements such as fonts, colors schemes and other visual hooks ensuring that the brand identity is conveyed throughout the entire experience.
Furthermore we implemented typographic elements that double up as interactive buttons and are part of the exhibitions navigation. Additionally they are also embedded into the overall design and the architecture of the space itself. A classical exhibition entré text leads to three interactive lists of start-ups.
